Since September 2018, Šiauliai county Povilas Višinskis public library invited students of Lithuanian high schools, vocational education schools, colleges and universities to participate in the poster contest “Women Go Pro”.
Although the situation in the field of gender equality has improved in Lithuania in the last 15 years, there are still many problematic aspects such as youth education on gender stereotypes, hidden discrimination, motivation to achieve non-standard (gender-wise) goals, professions and choices. The contest aimed to promote the equality between men and women and to reveal what stereotypes and prejudices about women exist in family, school, university and work as well as how they affect women’s lives.
The poster contest “WomenGoPro” was organized in cooperation with the mentoring program “WomenGoTech” (a part of the association INFOBALT Lithuania), which has been operating in Lithuania for several years.
Students were asked to show in their posters stereotypes about women, (in)equality between women and men, to express their views on women in non-traditional professions and career place in the family.
